New Program Trains Truck Drivers To Spot Suspicious Activity

COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Highway Patrol hopes truck drivers can help them take criminals off the roads.

The Patrol is teaming with the Ohio Trucking Association to train drivers to detect criminal activity, such as impaired driving and human trafficking.

The program, dubbed Truck Shield, will enable drivers to dial #677 from the road to report suspicious activity to troopers.

Drivers' training started Thursday, and troopers are hoping it'll pay off over the holiday weekend and beyond.

"We are very excited to have the help of these drivers - not only Memorial Day weekend - but for years to come," Patrol superintendent Colonel John Born said.

Trucking companies interested in participating in the program should contact their local Patrol Post.
