Women in Trucking? You bet.

Since I started working at BTG, one of the things that surprised me the most was to find out that there are women truck drivers. There aren't many, but every now and then you find one.

Today I was surprised to find out about the Women in Trucking Association (WIT), a nonprofit organization established in 2007,  that works towards encouraging the employment of women in the trucking industry, promoting  their accomplishments and minimizing obstacles faced by women working in the trucking industry.

They just announced they are planning their third annual Salute to the Women Behind the Wheel, to be held in Louisville, Kentucky on March 24th, 2012. Their goal in hosting the event is to recognize women for their years of service in the industry.

The second edition of Salute to the Women Behind the Wheel, held earlier this year drew 204 professional female drivers. Among the honorees, there were sixty-eight women who drove over one million miles, twenty six had more than two million miles, eleven had driven more than three million miles, and for the first time two women were recognized for driving four million miles.

If you are interested in attending the event you can check their website for more info: www.salute2women.com
